The South County ARES Roster is organized for easy check-in logging and also for monthly reporting by the AEC to the DEC. The DEC reports the member and check-in data to the Section Manager, who shares them with the Division Manager, and so on. It is important that we accurately record check-ins and membership data as part of the overall emergency management goals.
Each numbered bullet point in this list corresponds to a callout on the screen capture at the bottom of this page.
Zoom Level: Adjust the zoom level according to your personal preference for the device that you are currently using. The zoom level that you set is temporary for the device you are using. If you reload, or close and reopen the worksheet, the zoom level gets reset to the default 100%
Column Groups: The “+” and “-” buttons expand or collapse the columns so that you can focus on the columns that are relevant to you during your NCS duty. NCS and regular stations do not generally have the worksheet privileges required to use these controls. The AEC will make periodic adjustments to the column groups so that 12 weeks of check-in data is displayed. This helps to assure that the printed worksheet fits properly on a single letter-sized page.
Icon Bar: use the chevron to view or collapse the Icon Bar. In most cases, the icon bar should be collapsed for more focused viewing of the worksheet.
Regular Stations: All regular stations should be called during the weekly net roll call. The stations highlighted in green are ARES members, and the stations without the highlight are regular stations. Regular stations are organized by call sign suffix. Record an uppercase “V” for voice check-ins, or the uppercase “VW” if the regular station also claims a Winlink check-in.
Visitor Stations: Visitors are not roll called but can check in during the visitor check-in period of the net. Visitor stations are organized by call sign suffix. A few blank lines are included for new visitors. Stale visitors (those with the fewest recent check-ins) will be removed from the visitor stations log to make room for new visitors. Record an uppercase “V” for voice check-ins, or the uppercase “VW” if the visiting station also claims a Winlink check-in.
NCS: Net Control Stations should record uppercase “NCS” in their row and column for the date(s) that they perform NCS duty. Only one NCS designation should be recorded for each date, and the NCS designation should not be changed to a “V” or “VW” during or after the net. If the NCS does not perform their scheduled duty, change the NCS designation to the new station.
Row 1 displays a yellow highlight for dates when no net control station is assigned. ARES members and regular stations are encouraged to volunteer for these dates. NCS volunteers can reserve dates in advance.
Winlink Regular Check-ins: The NCS or AEC will record or provide the number of Winlink check-ins received from ARES members and regular stations prior to the start of the net. Late Winlink check-ins might not be recorded. Report this number during the Countywide Net.
Winlink Visitor Check-ins: The AEC will record or provide the number of Winlink check-ins received from visitors, including ARES members from other areas, prior to the start of the net. ARES members from other SLO areas are recorded as visitors. Report this number during the Countywide Net.
Voice Regular Check-ins: This field is automatically calculated from the cells above it, and is not editable. Any text in the cells above this field counts in the calculation (V, VW, W or NCS). Report totals during the Countywide Net.
Check-ins count: This field is automatically calculated from the cells preceding it to show how many times that regular station checked in during the calendar year.
NCS count: This field is automatically calculated from the cells preceding it to show how many times that regular station performed NCS duty during the calendar year. Future scheduled NCS duties are included in the calculation.
Total All Voice & Winlink: This is the grand total of all check-ins performed on the given date in the column header. Report this number during the Countywide Net.
Visitor Station Check-ins: This is the total number of visitor Voice check-ins. Report this number during the Countywide Net.
