We believe that true resilience starts at the community level and grows through collaboration. That is why LAXNORTHEAST and many more dedicated groups are thrilled to jointly support the 2026 TSUNAMI Exercise, a global, simulated emergency response scenario designed to boost our operational readiness and keep our neighborhoods safe!
Whether you are operating from a dedicated shack or testing out a new mobile go-kit, this exercise is built entirely around community preparedness. Over the course of the drill, participants will sharpen their digital communication skills by completing 8 Winlink tasks, ranging from "Did You Feel It?" reports to situational awareness bulletins.
The exercise assumes basic familiarity with Winlink and operators' capability to execute tasks independently. The exercise is open to all interested.
Here are the critical details you need to participate:
Operational Period: March 19, 2026, 0600 UTC to March 30, 2026, 0600 UTC.
SLO County ARES members and regular stations are requested to participate on Wednesday, March 25, 2026
Exercise ID: You must strictly use TSUNAMI (all caps) to ensure your data routes correctly.
Instructions: Download the full exercise guidelines and resources at https://www.laxnortheast.org/exercises/tsunami
We also want to extend a massive thank you to the USGS for their ongoing encouragement of this exercise and their vital role in our disaster response ecosystems.
